In 1912 Alex Wuttunee Decoteau represented Canada at the Olympic Games where he competed in the 5,000 metre race. He died in an attack on the heights around the ruined village of Passchendaele in 1917.
On Sunday 12 November in the afternoon, the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 and ZoLo (running group of Zonnebeke) organise a running race with a course of 5, 10 and 16 kilometres (10 miles). Part of the 10 miles circuit is, an ‘Alex Decoteau Run’ of 5,000 metres. This course with musical and visual aspects runs through the historic battlefield. Due to the running race, the car parks of the MMP1917 are closed on 12 November. Visitors can park on the municipality square, in the Langemarkstraat, the Roeselarestraat, the car park of the Zonnebeke church and ‘Culinair Huis Vandeputte’ (Ieperstraat 14).
